PAUSE LONGUE – AUTUMN TIME

Photography exhibition by Sonia Hamza
Texts and poems by Mokhtar Chaoui

From October 17 to November 15, 2024
Institut Français of Tétouan, Morocco

Pause Longue – Autumn Time, a photographic series, traces an inner journey in search of the marks left by time and absence. Each image—living tableaux born of deep introspection—is captured with both boldness and delicacy.

Through long exposures taken handheld, the artist responds to a universal question: “How did you experience the lockdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic?” This guiding thread shapes the series, which begins with spontaneous, chaotic captures. The movements—sometimes soft, sometimes dynamic—create an artistic blur, allowing the image to bend to the artist’s inspiration. Rarely bringing the camera to her eye, she explores unusual perspectives, guided purely by intuition. By mastering chance, she reveals visions hidden behind the veil of appearances.

Writer Mokhtar Chaoui offers his words—poetic interpretations of everyday scenes in Tétouan.

Created during her residency at the Institut Français, this series is an homage to the city of Tétouan, to its people, its stories, and its memories. It stands as a testament to the importance of seizing fleeting moments in order to render them eternal.
